Quest Software, now part of Dell Software a division of Dell Inc., was a software manufacturer headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California. Founded in 1987, Quest developed and supported software used in a variety of industries to simplify IT management. Quest Software was acquired by Dell, announced on July 2, 2012, for $2.36 billion. The company was known for TOAD, a product used by database professionals, in addition to other products for IT development, management, monitoring and protection. It offered both packaged and custom software applications, as well as associated software infrastructure components, such as databases, application servers, operating systems and hypervisors. The company had a reputation for following IT spending trends and investing in technology areas such as virtualization, cloud automation and backup and recovery.
